Three Things: Cold Weather Essentials

These cozy slippers.

This layering tee.

This hydrating serum.

I moved to New York from Chicago a couple of years ago. Whenever I tell New Yorkers where I am from, 8 out of 10 people comment about how cold it is in Chicago. I didn’t believe them at first, but now that it is my second winter in New York, I admit it really is much colder in Chicago. I sympathize with all of my family and friends back home as they deal with another season of below 0 degree F temps.

Still, it’s cold here in New York, too. And, I live in an old house. So old, in fact, that there is a 1000 gallon oil tank buried in my front yard. This oil helps warm our home. (I know, its crazy town.) Our pipes bang all January long as the steam rises up through our radiators. My 3-year old, Maddie, is scared of the pipes and thinks the noise is an imaginary monster named “Peek-a-boo.” Poor thing.

There’s nothing I can do about the cold temps, so I’ve been collecting and trying new products to help keep me warm and sane during the coldest months. These three things are at the top of my list:

Top: I cannot live without my Ugg ‘Dakota’ slippers ($99). They are the most warm and comfortable footwear that I’ve ever owned. They are the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night. I feel naked without them.

Middle: My Trouve Layering Tee ($48). I was hesitant about this tee at first because the material is super fine and soft and I figured there was no way it would hold up in the wash. Over a dozen washes later and I still reach for this tee to wear underneath sweaters and vests for extra warmth. I also like that its a little long and covers the hip area. At $48, this is a deal.

Bottom: I have super sensitive and very dry skin. Kate Somerville’s Hydrating Quench Serum ($75) is a lifesaver for my skin during the winter months. It melts right into my skin and helps it retain moisture. A little goes a very long way and I only use one bottle a season.

Do you have any essentials or tips that help you survive the cold?

Ahhh, Uggs! I purchased the tall for outdoors and the shorter version for home. Wish I'd seen these mocs! Warm and comfy!

Hi, Jacquee! I have short Ugg boots as well for errands and quick trips outside. I don't know what I would do without them!
