The Cozy Guest Room: Decorating Ideas

We recently moved into an old house that has a tiny bedroom and bath on the top floor. We welcome and expect family to stay with us when they visit New York, so I’ve been slowly trying to furnish the intimate space with small furniture pieces and little comforts of home without breaking the bank. Here are several items with a mixture of style and function that have been on my radar. (The terry slippers (9) are a steal at under $6 and would make a nice touch for visiting guests!)

The Cozy Guest Room: Decorating Ideas:

1) Pottery Barn Bedding // 2) Anthropologie Covent Alarm Clock // 3) Overstock Rosewood Nightstand // 4) Restoration Hardware Turkish Towels // 5) Diptyque Baies/Berries Candle // 6) Suzanne Kasler Large Gourd Lamp // 7) Winsome Reese Luggage Rack with Shelf // 8) Pottery Barn French Wire Hamper // 9) Terry Slippers // 10) Threshold Settee Bench // CB2 Cora Carafe

Based on one visit, I would give the FitzSimon family a "10" on hospitality and comfort. Fun to read this!

Hey there, long time reader first time posetr here :) So funny you ask about New York as I actually just returned from my first trip there myself - we stayed at the Roommate Grace Hotel in midtown, which was a groovy, clean and affordable hotel and easy to get around the city from the central location. Definitely do Top of the Rock (Rockerfeller Centre observation deck) at sunset - the views of the city and Empire State Building are breathtaking. And the Real New York walking tour (look for it on Trip Advisor) was a great not-so-touristy introduction to the city. Billy Elliot on Broadway was also fantastic (even my musical-hating husband enjoyed it) and you can usually get half price tickets at the ticket booth in Times Square on the day of the show. Have fun, it truly is the most fabulous city!
