We recently spent the weekend in Newport, Rhode Island to attend a friend’s wedding. I fell in love with this charming town! This “City by the Sea” has a cute downtown with a vibrant art, shopping and dining scene that is perfect for a weekend trip from Boston or New York.
My favorite excursion was the three-and-a-half mile Cliff Walk along the Atlantic shoreline and a return trip along Bellevue Avenue where many of the famous Vanderbilt and Astor families built their “gilded” mansions.
We also enjoyed some delicious New England food and wine, including lobster sliders overlooking the ocean on the lawn of Castle Hill Inn.
We did not have enough time to explore Newport, so we will definitely be back to this wonderful gem. A perfect time to visit is just after Labor Day when the summer crowds are back to school and it is still warm enough to comfortably enjoy the fresh air and scenic walks.
